At last, my favouri Bat-villain, the master of fear, The Scarecrow. I just dig the relation between the concept of fear and the figure of a scarecrow, a human-like figure standing emotionless on a field, and created to give fear to birds XD

The thing I dislike is that he is usually drawn as a very goofy and clumsy guy, and since his main weapon is gas, is difficult to put him against Batsy in a fight... but well done, he is a great foe with many possibilities. But it seems DC writers don't have too much imagination left for Crane, since recently they used the easy trick to make any character more dangerous: make it a mutant. That thing of the 'Scarebeast' is just bullc***p, guys. What's next? the Jokerbeast?

So, to make him more threatening, I make him look more like a psycho, walking like a zombie that doesn't attend to any begging or order. The coat helps in this concept, it makes him look thicker and stronger than he really is. Yes, you could hit him hard, but you know he is going to stand up and make you run, just like those monsters from terror films.

This is pretty awesome. Scarecrow has been a fav of mine for a long time now. I love how he and many of the other bat baddies are perfect metaphorical counter parts to Batman himself, which a mark of good and original characters. I agree with you on your take of how he should be used and how he should look. Though, I am having a hard time deciding if I like this best or if I like his final look in the animated universe where he looks like an old southern preacher with a noose around his neck. Also, I love the take that they had for him in "Green Lantern: Blackest Night" series where he is emotionally flat affected. Amazing work on all of your designs.

Thank you for your scarecrow drawing it does seem like the sarecrow to me the tall rag man who is going to scare the hell out of you in the night and with the hat and coat and hay, I think he should have a noose and be a little bit thicker but the concept is great :iconhalloweenplz:

Have you looked up the Detective comics? In, what I believe was a two parter, Crane gets pissed that everyone thinks he's a joke because of his fear gas. So he whips out his brain and psychological skills and fucks up all the inmates of Arkham (causing a few to commit suicide) and then goes on a month long killing spree, literally scaring people to death before he finishes them off.

I also like Year One Scarecrow. When he kills the first guy you meet in the comic, I thought he cut off the guys eyelids so the dude couldn't close his eyes. He doesn't, but at the time, I thought it was a nice touch to Crane's character. Year One had him something like an assassin, but with his own agenda.

I also keep reading about Violent Dancing, which I really really really really really want to see Crane use against Bats.

Half expected a noose around his neck. It's become a staple in his design. It's good all the same. You'd expect him to string himself up like an actual scarecrow for his debute. Only to come to life with Batman's back turned to try and knife him. Did you read the Blackest Night crossover when he temporaraly became a Sinestro Corps. member?
